GMO

Updated: Sep 22, 2023

OMG, it's a GMO!

.

Before we freak out, let's figure out what these 3️⃣ letters actually mean.

.

G.M.O. stands for Generically Modified Organism. ⁉️ Not helpful? How about this....it means that the DNA of an organism (🌱,🦠, etc.) has been modified in some very specific way. This can mean that a tiny part of 🧬 is removed to prevent 🍏’s from browning, or a gene from another source can be added to increase the nutrition…such as #GoldenRice).

.

Are GMO foods safe for me to eat? YES - this question has been researched a LOT. 👩🏼‍🔬 In fact, independent scientists as well as organizations around the 🌎 agree that after analyzing multiple decades worth of data 📊, we can be confident that #GenericallyModifiedOrganisms are safe for you and me to eat.¹

.

Do GMO's impact the environment? YES - in the best way possible. GMO's allow 👩🏼‍🌾’s to produce more crops with less input (water, land, energy). If we are going to feed 9.8 billion people by 2050, then we'll need to embrace farming technology (such as GMO's) to make it happen.

.

There are currently only 11 GMO foods available in the US: 🌽, soybeans, cotton, canola, alfalfa, sugar beets, papaya, squash, 🥔, 🍎, salmon. If you see a food other than these labeled as 'non-GMO' that is BS because a GMO version of those foods simply does not exist on the market.

.

Do I eat GMO’s? – YES! YES! YES! #NoshItFoodFacts
